Abusive Parent Dispute Resolution
ASSOCIATION AWARD WINNERS

Please take a minute and think about the people who Volunteered on behalf of the kids in our association and if  you think someone deserves a nomination please send them to nsminorhockey@bellaliant.com  by Tuesday March 23rd.  We appreciate ALL Volunteers they are vital to running a successful program.  But if someone pops out as going above and beyond please share the nomination.

THANK YOU FOR THE NOMINATIONS:  HERE ARE THE WINNERS OF 2020-2021 SEASON

Volunteer of the year Award-  The winner of this Award was Sheri Campbell.  Sheri as you all know has served as our President this year and it was a challenging year with all the Covid Safety Protocols that had to be put in place.  Sheri attended meeting after meeting trying to make sure along with her Board of Directors that Hockey could continue this season.  Not only did she lead the Board of Directors but she also could be found on Saturday Mornings helping with the U-7 & U-9 Divisions all year, she could be seen at the Ticket Draws and around the rink all year.  Congratulations to Sheri!

Long Term Service Award -  This Award was presented to Lloyd Wilkie,  Some of you might know Lloyd and some may not be as farmiliar with his name as others.  Lloyd served as President of North Sydney Minor Hockey before we amalgamated.  He sat on the Board of Directors of the  Amalgamation Trial Year.  Lloyd was also vital to the Metro League  " C" hockey .  As our populations declined and we didnt have as many in-house teams for our "C"  teams to play against it became apparent that we had to find a loop for this level to play in.  Lloyd was involved in making this happen locally.  He has continued over the years following his grandchildren who continue to play. We felt his contribution to our Progam over the years  has demonstrated an inpact and made him a perfect choice for this award.

Rep Coach of the Year Award- This Award was given to Graham Carmichael,  Graham has been involved with Minor Hockey for several years now in our U-7 and U-9 Program.  This year we were in need of a Coach for the U-11 B team and when he was approached by the Board he stepped up to Coach this team.  He continued to coach the U-7 & U-9 Levels as well, where he has other children playing.  This team had a rocky start to the year, the U-11 Division was up in the air for the first half of the year and he continued to support our efforts and keep the kids up beat while that division was finally figured out.   The team was made up of a large group of first year players and his aim was to set a lot of  small goals and little bench marks all while keeping  the team improving and upbeat.  Every game the players left smiling and encouraged.  Congratulation to Graham

C Hockey Coach of the Year Award - This Award was given to  the Bantam C Coach, Todd Higgins,  Todd also coaches in the U-9 Division.  He is always upbeat and accomodating. The Bantam team had 4 new players decide that they wanted to give hokcey a try this season,  We were so happy that these players took an interest in hockey and Todd was the perfect Coach to introduce the game to them and balance that with players that have been here since U-9.   He has fostered a love of the game to kids who cant wait to return, we are very fortunate to have had him.  Winning a game is always nice but it was never the ultimate goal for Todd.  Teaching the game, having fun and smiling faces meant more than any scoreboard.  Congratulations to Todd

Trainer of the Year-  This Award was given  to Shawn Reashore,  Shawn was the Trainer for the U-18 A Team.  Shawn has been around for many years as a parent of a player that last season Aged out of hockey.  He was asked if he would consider coming back to be on the Bench Staff with this team where he happily did.  Shawn went to every game, was always there for the players and took his job as Trainer very seriously .  When your children are on the ice injured it's important to have someone keep them calm and looked after all the details.  Congratulation to Shawn

Manager of the Year-  This Award was given to Tara Ivey,  Tara has been helping out with Minor Hockey for many years.  She was the Manager of the  the U-11 B team doing double duty as the Safety Coordinator  for them as well.  She also was the Manager for one of the U-9 Groups.   As everone knows the backbone of the any team is the management of it.  She took the job very seriously and was loved by all the players and parents as was evident by the nominations and glowing remarks for her.  Congratulations to Tara

Hockey Assistance Program

CALGARY, Alta. – The Hockey Canada Foundation has launched its new $1 million Assist Fund to provide registration fee subsidies for qualified Canadians who are registered with Hockey Canada-sanctioned associations for the 2020-21 season.

“As a prominent national sports organization in the country, it’s Hockey Canada’s mission to lead, develop and promote positive hockey experiences,” said Tom Renney, chief executive officer of Hockey Canada. “It’s a goal that’s more important than ever, as COVID-19 has had a challenging impact on so many young people from coast-to-coast-to-coast.”

The Hockey Canada Foundation Assist Fund allows Canadians who meet the criteria and need a financial hockey assist to apply for up to $500 in registration fee reimbursements per player, provided the registration is with a Hockey Canada-sanctioned association.

To enhance the impact and support for local communities, Canadians can also donate to the Assist Fund, with 100% of all donated funds reaching young Canadians. The Hockey Canada Foundation will absorb all administration costs associated with the fund. Donations can be made at HockeyCanada.ca/AssistFund.

A line-up of hockey heroes is championing the Hockey Canada Foundation Assist Fund. All three have provided and known the importance of assists and community support, on and off the ice.
