Midget Report

NSDMHA
2017-2018
The 2017-2018 season in Midget for NSDMHA was a challenging one. The number of players registered made it difficult- we had too many players for two teams, but just had a minimum amount to ice three teams.  We iced one A and two Metro teams. Our Rep team was competitive in a strong division. Both of our Metro teams started the year with 11 players, and with suspensions and absences it was difficult to ice a team. The Regional Director for Hockey Nova Scotia granted permission for both teams to borrow players from each other during regular season when they were short and other team wasn’t playing. This helped in the regular season to provide enough players, however it wasn’t allowed in playoffs.
With the co-operation of both Metro coaches working together, both teams were very competitive. Metro team one experienced a mid-season competitive struggle, but finished playing very competitive winning there last 8 games. Metro team two played in 3 tournaments losing in the semifinals twice and missing the crossovers by a shootout point. They finished in 5th place in a league comprised of 11 teams.
I would like to personally thank our Head coaches and their respective coaching staffs. Richard Hannem coached Midget A while Troy Ferneyhough and Blair Spicer coached our Metro teams. These individuals consistently volunteer their time year over year to ensure player’s become better hockey players and better individuals. I would also like to thank Blair and Richard for doing the schedules for their respective leagues.
I would like to thank our President, Joe Peck, fellow Board Members, and Carla who worked very hard to ensure our Midget players had a successful season.
